May 2024 Update
Now that COVID restrictions are thankfully behind us, it is time to review the needs and opportunities which exist in 2024.
There are many positives. Many of the groups which were in existence are still with us and offer the same facilities and benefits they always did. Furthermore, we now have a modern Community Centre which can offer additional facilities for groups to meet and also for the whole community; there is a Café and Library. This supplements the venues offered by the Memorial Hall and Church. New groups such as the Men’s Shed have started to offer new opportunities to combat loneliness and to broaden the social dimension.
On the negative side, the many social, leisure and activity groups sometimes find it difficult to recruit sufficient committee members from residents of our community. This reflects an ageing village population where people find health and mobility issues restrict what they feel they can usefully contribute. Sadly, some groups have been wound up. Whilst the many new houses which are continuing to expand the village population offer a new source of members and volunteers, it will take time for them to integrate into our community. We await completion of all the building phases and importantly, completion of the spine road which will help to link the new developments with the older parts of the village where most of the activities take place. We have still to see what extra community facilities will be provided within the new developments. Hopefully the new residents, with their younger demographic, can be encouraged to serve on group committees to ensure future viability and to help shape facilities and opportunities for the community as a whole as well as participating as group members. To this end, new residents will be given a welcome pack introducing them to the facilities, groups and opportunities available. They will also be encouraged to join the Lisvane Community Association whose monthly newsletter, Lisvane Link, gives details of all the facilities and groups available as well as special events which we hope will encourage them to participate in Village Life. The new residents, representing a younger age profile, may have different needs from those currently identified and future surveys will focus on identifying how those needs may be met.

By emailing your details you agree that we will use the information to share your details with others in your nearby locality who either need or can offer help. It will be collated centrally by a small group of local volunteers and will be deleted when no longer required for this purpose.
