Latest update for road works on Rudry Road from 14 June 2021

Following on from the concerns raised, the contractor has attended site to review if the works could be done under a different form of Traffic Management.

I can advise they will now able to undertake the first phase of works only under two way lights. The contractor has changed the scope of works slightly by ensuring the apparatus is tight to the verge allowing space to be created with safety zones etc.

Contractor update:

Phase 1 = approx. 350m

We will be keeping the first phase completely open for every vehicle, that’s including HGV vehicles. The reason the scope has changed, is that we are now going as tight to the verge as we possibly can. It has helped that the Redrow site has cleared most the verge for us to get further over. That means from the Waterstone homes site to just passed the Tyn Y Berllan junction, we will be doing under two way traffic lights with no road closure at all. We will be working in a 80-100 yards work zone. The timescale on this should be approx. 2-3 weeks work, with 2 weeks being the likelihood.

Phase 2 = approx. 15m

They believe they will need a road closure due to an installation of a manhole. However, I have asked for them to review the Road closure Plan / diversion route to ensure it caters for all vehicles. I have also asked them to look at undertaking the works on weekends / nights and potentially outside school term time to try and minimise the disruption to the local community. I have also asked if there is any way to allow residential access through the closure with Health and Safety being taken into consideration. Please note there is no date for this as it is still being explored of what options are available for the works to be completed.

As the road is remaining open the plan is that they could still commence with phase 1 only on Monday 14th June for a period of 2weeks (3rd week as a just in case) under the new proposed Traffic Management plan.
